Get Your Kid to Stop Crying - Ground Work

Laying the Groundwork

Consider teaching very young children (even as young as six months) a few key baby sign-language signs to communicate their needs. A few simple signs will not only empower your child to tell you what she really wants or needs, but will teach her that clear communication is the best means to her desired end, not crying or acting up.

Yelling at your child or telling him to stop crying will only make him cry more. Instead, say that you can’t understand what he’s saying, but if he uses his words you’ll be able to help.
